Taxi Driver (1974)

On every street in every city in this country, there's a nobody who dreams of being a somebody . . . LFDW brings the 1976 Martin Scorsese's classic 1976 drama TAXI DRIVER to the ESQUIRE this month.

Synopsis: Ground in its historical moment of American in the 1970s media-fixated Vietnam era, is the story of a mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran who works as a night-time taxi driver in decaying mid-'70s New York City. While Travis wishes for a "real rain" to wash the "scum" off the neon-lit streets, he struggles to connect with others and the perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge for violent action. TAXI DRIVER went on to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and received a Best Picture nomination. Anchored by Robert De Niro's disturbing embodiment of "God's lonely man," Taxi Driver remains a striking milestone of both Scorsese's career and 1970s Hollywood.
