INTERFACE

The year was 1943. A catastrophic experiment fractures reality, leaving a silent man in a blue suit trapped in an immortal existence. Accompanied by a shapeshifting entity born from the same disaster, he traverses a world where consciousness has become visible, and corporations are already eager to control it for their own ends. The film draws direct references from classic works of art, including pieces by Edward Hopper, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Vincent van Gogh, Michelangelo, Gustave Doré, and others, placing its surreal world in conversation with art history. Created over several years by Canadian artist Justin Tomchuk (aka umami), Interface has earned acclaim at festivals from Toronto to Paris, where Flying Lotus presented it as a landmark of independent animation. With its analog textures, haunting score, and singular vision, Interface stands as one of the boldest achievements in contemporary animation — a hypnotic meditation on memory, mortality, and the persistence of art.
